1. National Wallace Monument

Looming above Stirling, the National Wallace Monument stands mystical and magical on a hill beside the city. Constructed in the 1860s, the tower honours the 13th century Scottish hero, Sir William Wallace. The spot the tower sits on is where Wallace observed the advancing English armies, prior to the Scottish victory in the Battle of Stirling Bridge. After climbing the 246 steps of the tower, absorb the breath taking panoramic views across the Ochil Hills and the River Forth.

2. Stirling Old Town Jail

A truly captivating and fascinating experience, Stirling Old Town Jail is a prison built in 1847 to house all of the local convicted criminals at the time. 3. Stirling Castle

The favoured residence of Scottish Kings and Queens, Stirling Castle sits atop an old volcanic plug which overlooks the city of Stirling. This position is significant as it became an excellent defence spot against invading armies. In 1543, a nine month old Mary Queen of Scots was crowned at Stirling Castle following her father's death. 4. Stirling Ghost Walk

Do you believe in ghosts? Tour Stirling's old town looking for phantoms and ghouls that roam the streets. Will you see one of the inmates from the prison, or a fallen soldier from one of the areas reputable battles? Jock Rankin, the jail's famous executioner, is said to wander the narrow streets of the old town, looking for any wrong doing!

5. Bannockburn Battlefield

One of the most significant battles in Scottish history was fought at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314. King Robert the Bruce of Scotland led a victorious army against the English in a war for Scottish independence. The site is now host to a visitor centre, where you can watch and experience this infamous battle. Tour the battlefield under the watchful eye of Robert the Bruce, a statue immortalising the Scottish hero.

8. Blair Drummond Safari Park

9. Dunblane Cathedral

Dunblane is a small town located a few miles north of Stirling, with Dunblane Cathedral being located in the town centre. This impressive medieval cathedral has managed to retain its 12th century glory, with the choir stalls being the same from when it was first built. You will be in awe at how wonderfully preserved the cathedral is, with exceptionally carved wood statues, Gothic entrances and beautiful glazed windows.
